Classes at a Glance:

  • The Sampradaya Dance Academy year, like the school year, runs from September to June with Intermediate and Advanced students taking part in one week of training in a Summer Camp Intensive in July.
  • New students typically begin in September at a level deemed appropriate based on their age and prior dance experience.
  • Beginner level students will be admitted from September to April. Intermediate and Advanced Level students will have to audition to determine their Bharatanatyam dance skills.
  • Our Academy year is divided into three semesters, Fall (Sept. – Dec.), Winter (Jan. – Mar.), and Spring (Apr. – Jun.).
  • Students generally spend a whole year in the same grade/level, unless the teacher, in consultation with parents, decides otherwise.
  • Class length varies, with the younger students (Elementary level) having 45-minute classes once a week and some of the advanced students having up to 3 or 4 hours of class a week
  • Classes run in the evenings on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and from 9am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday
  • At the end of the spring semester each year, each class is taught a group choreography to perform at the Annual Recital in June of that year
  • Class sizes vary. Classes can be as small as 5 students and as large as 15 students.
  • Here at Sampradaya Dance Academy, we take a holistic approach to teaching Bharatanatyam, with students expected to learn dance technique, history, Carnatic (South India classical music) and dance theory and repertoire.
  • There will be homework which parents will be expected to monitor.
